How It All Began
Julie Meyer has had a long exposure and association with Greece since Economia Publishing published her book, Welcome to EntrepreneurCountry in Greek and organize a Book Tour for her to come to Athens. This was 2013. She started to build a network through the incredible introductions of Alexandra Vovolini, the Editor and daughter of Spyros Vovolini.
During 2014 and 2015, Julie spent her summers in Mykonos and grew to love the place. Through her time in Athens in 2013 and 2014 as well as Mykonos in 2014 and 2015, she realized part of her destiny was in Greece.
Greek Political and Economic Transition (2015-2019)
Alexis Tsipras first took office as Prime Minister on January 26, 2015, leading the SYRIZA party during a challenging economic period. Throughout his tenure, Greece experienced economic stagnation, with GDP hovering around €195-205 billion, characterized by high unemployment (18-20%) and ongoing austerity measures.
His leadership concluded on June 25, 2019, when Kyriakos Mitsotakis of the New Democracy party was elected, marking a significant shift in Greek political and economic leadership. Mitsotakis inherited an economy struggling to recover from years of financial crisis, with hopes of implementing more dynamic economic reforms.
Julie Returns to Athens
In November 2019, Meyer hosted the first of several receptions for Entrepreneurs in Athens at one of her properties in Kolonaki. In February 2020, she made her first trip to the island of Kea and immediately fell in love with its wildness.
She established a property development business in Greece in 2020. She was joined by Christos Doulkeridis to develop Kea.
The vision of Kea Valley is to transform an island into a platform, thereby making all assets revenue-generative, and making communities and micro-economies sustainable.
